one-north Park Parcel P5

One of the larger park parcels opened to the public since October 2005, Parcel P5 is a 3.3 hectare area located in the northern zone of one-north. It is close to the Ministry of Education, the future condominium and adjacent to Biopolis and the future NTU Alumni building. P5 is also the first park jointly developed by NParks and JTC.

Studio Steed Pte Ltd (Singapore) was the appointed main landscape consultant in collaboration with West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture from Netherlands as the lead designer for this project.

Characteristics of P5

Hilly Terrain
Mostly occupied by a steep hill, P5 has a hilltop level of 37 metres. This is approximately 27 metres above the surrounding roads such as the North Buona Vista Road. With the existing gradients between 1:2 - 1:5, landforms were designed to overcome the steep accessibility problem and pockets of terraces were created to provide areas for various types of activities. P5 was also designed to cater for Handicap users.

Vegetation
The existing vegetation is a significant part of the character of the site. Retaining the best existing trees and developing planting themes creates a special quality parkland. More than 25 mature trees in an excellent shape and condition have been identified for retention.

Accent / Playful Plantings
The sloping topography of P5 is ideal for lower-type planting as it can be viewed both from tall surrounding buildings and at pedestrian level. The use of two shrub species help add colours and volume to the landscape. Pseuderanthemum 'Jessica' and Sansevieria trifasticata 'Laurentii' both have distinctive variegated colours and strong growth habits. They were planted at close spacing to ensure the coarse "carpet" like effect and strong pattern on the sloping ground.
